Council authorizes 10-year Axon Taser subscription for police to replace aging devices

The City of Cody approved a 10-year master services and purchase agreement with Axon Taser to replace its department’s Tasers and provide training and software as part of a subscription model.
Police Chief Stafford told the council the department’s current devices are about 12 years old and “2 generations behind the current model.” He said staff estimated an outright purchase would cost “about $565,000” for Tasers alone, without holsters, cartridges and training, and that the subscription approach bundles hardware replacement, holsters, training supplies, virtual-reality training goggles and two certified instructors. Chief Stafford said the subscription was budgeted in FY27 at about $39,000 and would be managed as a 10-year commitment in the department’s capital projections.
Council moved, seconded and approved the item on the council floor. Staff noted the subscription includes periodic refreshes so the department receives newer models during the contract term.
