City Administrator Shane Fisher reported there are currently three overflow areas within the existing cemetery and that the parcel identified for future expansion cannot be eligible for grant funding until the cemetery is added to the City’s Comprehensive Plan. Fisher said the Comprehensive Plan adoption is expected by the end of the year and that preliminary survey work, alignment studies and sprinkler design for the expansion have been completed using set-aside funds.
Fisher said once the cemetery is included in the Comprehensive Plan, staff will begin applying for grant funding to support the expansion. No timeline or specific grant programs were listed in the discussion; staff framed the work as preparatory engineering and planning until the policy amendment is adopted.
