Resident Chris Savoy urges Cedar Hill to consider rules for Flock cameras

Chris Savoy, a Cedar Hill resident who gave his address as 1706 Hidden Canyon Loop, used the Citizens Forum to urge the council to consider restrictions on so-called Flock cameras that have been installed around town.
"They're creeping me out," Savoy said, adding that "there's nothing published on the city's police website concerning their, when they're deployed. There's nothing concerning what is done with the data once they're deployed." He asked the council to schedule the issue for a future agenda to consider regulations and restrictions for camera deployment and data handling.
Savoy described seeing a camera near the Murphy's gas station and said that routine captures of license-plate images can make residents uncomfortable. The chair thanked Savoy for raising the topic and noted the council will have the new police chief brief the body in the near future.
The comment was made during Citizens Forum and no council action was taken at the meeting on the use or regulation of the cameras. The council did not vote or direct staff on the issue at this session; Savoy asked the body to place the topic on a future agenda for formal consideration.
