Assistant Chief told commissioners the department invited 184 candidates to physical and written testing for entry-level sworn positions on April 25 at West Middle School; only 41 non-experienced candidates appeared and 11 failed the physical-agility test. "Of those 184, we only had 41 people show up," the Assistant Chief said during his update.
He said 30 candidates who passed the physical proceeded to the written exam, interviews were held May 5-6, and the top 10 candidates were referred for background investigations. An additional 11 people were placed on an eligibility list to fill vacancies if needed; the department aims to present three conditional offers in June. The commission acknowledged recruitment remains challenging and discussed the time-intensive nature of interview days.
