Manassas expands career-carving program with businesses to job-shadow students with diverse abilities

Manassas staff introduced the MCPS Career Carousel, a two-day job-shadowing and workplace-readiness program aimed at students with diverse abilities.
"The career carousel is a 2 days packed with job shadowing and workplace readiness," said Eric Godwin, the district’s CTE work-based learning specialist, who outlined monthly stakeholder meetings with CTE, special education and transportation to coordinate the program. He said students rotated through two locations in Manassas, refined resumes and interviewing skills, and heard panels on entrepreneurship and workplace expectations.
Godwin thanked about 25 local businesses and community partners that served as host sites or speakers, among them DABL Creative Reuse Center, Historic Manassas Incorporated, Manassas City Library, Manassas City Community Center, Manassas City Parks and Rec and several small businesses and individual volunteers.
The program held a recognition ceremony for students and partners; district leaders invited the students and their families forward for a photo and thanked the committee members who planned the program.
