Benbrook council ratifies Benbrook Economic Development Corporation FY2026–27 budget

Jessica James, director of the Benbrook Economic Development Corporation, asked the Benbrook City Council to ratify the EDC board-approved FY2026–27 budget during the council’s July 2 meeting. James told the council the EDC board unanimously approved the proposed budget following a June 15 public hearing with no public comments.
James outlined key line items in the proposed budget, including a $100,000 storefront improvement program with matching grants up to $20,000 for exterior work, $50,000 earmarked for environmental studies and related work in the Northwest Windscott area, and $25,000 for ongoing beautification of Benbrook Boulevard. She said the EDC’s proposed budget figure for the fiscal year is $757,318 and that the board’s projected end-of-year fund balance would be $9,595,337, "notwithstanding any new project expenditures or possible revenue from the sale of EDC owned properties."
Councilmember Franklin moved to ratify the budget as presented; the motion was seconded and carried. No council questions were recorded during the presentation. The EDC director offered to answer follow-up questions and noted that administrative operating expenses are approved through the city budget process while the EDC board approves projects and related funds.
