City manager reports near-complete street paving and building security upgrades

City Manager Rob Schomer opened the meeting with a brief operational update noting completed and near-complete capital projects.
Schomer said building security upgrades—replacement of end-of-life locks and cameras—are closing out and that the street paving project is "near complete" with only edgework and pavement markings remaining. The service department later reiterated that the paving program is an annual, planned project and described their assessment process for prioritizing roads.
Council members thanked staff for the work and noted the paving program contributes to public safety by addressing roadway conditions before they deteriorate. The Public Service representative said the department "did complete the paving" and called the paving program "one of our really well run projects that we do every year."
Separately, the Public Safety report noted the police department has two prospective candidates in the pipeline and the fire department interviewed a promising full-time candidate; a community blood drive at the fire station was also announced.
