Parks staff provided a progress update on John Ward Park, reporting that the north lake irrigation is operational aside from one valve and that crews are currently repairing valves and trenching wiring to bring the west side fully online.
James Stowe said the department hydroseeded with Bermuda grass and applied buffalo grass and wildflower mixes on steep slopes (Bermuda at 2 pounds per 1,000 sq ft; buffalo at 0.25 lb per 1,000; wildflowers at about 0.1 lb per 1,000). He said heavy rains briefly delayed work but staff expects irrigation to be fully functional and seeding to begin by the end of the following week. Lighting installations are complete and staff will continue installing benches and signage while finishing site cleanup.
Board members were shown the planned follow-up steps and staff invited questions; no formal action was required. Staff will provide photos and further updates to the board as the project completes.
