Accomack County schools seek FY25 carry‑forward; board sets May 20 public hearing on FY26 amendment

The presenter said the board previously authorized $2,500,000 to help complete renovations at a primary school and listed several capital projects that remain vulnerable to schedule slips. "That will not be completed, then there won't be a contract for that by June 30," the school official said of a storage-building A&E fee, and added similar concerns for the gym A&E work and site constraints that could require rework.
Board members pressed staff on textbook funding, the distinction between operating and adoption funds, and whether the district maintains a long-term facilities plan. The presenter confirmed the district maintains a CIP and strategic plan submitted annually to the county, and that large adoption cycles drive discrete funding needs beyond operating renewals.
After discussion the board moved and voted to set a public hearing on the proposed FY26 budget amendment for May 20 so the community can comment before final action.
