Chris Gibson, assistant director of Parks and Recreation, told the board the city's two new recreation centers will open April 22 with ribbon-cutting events planned: a GED event at 1:30 p.m. followed by a Chavez event at 2:15 p.m. "Our rec centers will be open April 22... GED kick us off at 01:30, and then we're gonna run really fast over to Chavez, and we're gonna do Chavez at 02:15," Gibson said.
Board members expressed enthusiasm and said they would attend when possible; staff agreed to take photos for members who cannot attend. Gibson also outlined that rec center floor space will include pickleball courts shared with volleyball and basketball, meaning outdoor dedicated pickleball courts are not presently in the park system.
