DeSoto board welcomes new economic development director Gus Garcia

The DeSoto Development Corporation on May 14 introduced Gus Garcia as its new executive director of economic development and welcomed a new economic development manager, Josh, who joined the team earlier in May. Board members praised the hires as part of a leadership push; Chair opened the meeting by saying the board was "elated" to have Garcia on board.
Garcia thanked the interview panel and city manager for the appointment and said the team had "lots of energy" after two weeks on the job. "I am super excited," he said, adding that the "table has been set" by the city manager and prior staff. Board members said early onboarding sessions have already begun and expressed optimism about future collaboration between the DDC, the city manager's office and the council. The board scheduled a follow-up retreat on July 10 to further develop the 6–12 month economic development action plan.
