The Dickinson Employee Benefits Trust voted to accept an offer from Blue Cross Blue Shield for its employee medical, pharmacy, dental and vision plans following a presentation by broker Higginbotham. "Blue Cross Blue Shield landed at a 7.69% increase, but it started at a 13%," Bridal Bishop of Higginbotham told the council while explaining the competitive market process that produced the renewal.
Higginbotham told the council the current program is complex and layered, and that the firm negotiated a renewal that would raise total program costs by about $107,000 annually (roughly a 7.69% change on the current program). Council members asked for and received clarifications about monthly employee costs, coinsurance and enrollment counts. The council moved to accept the recommendation and approved the motion by voice vote. The broker also presented an implementation timeline with open enrollment meetings scheduled for the 11th and 17th and recorded sessions for employees who cannot attend in person.
