Council approves FY26–27 School Resource Officer agreement with Park County District 6

Chief Jason Stafford summarized the proposed School Resource Officer (SRO) agreement between Park County District 6 and the City of Cody, explaining the contract provides one SRO for the calendar school year and was reviewed by the city attorney. He said the small increase in cost was captured in the FY27 budget and highlighted the partnership benefits, including student interaction with law enforcement in non-enforcement settings.
Council members asked whether past grants had been used to fund additional SRO positions or to add an officer at the middle school; Chief Stafford said grants had been pursued historically to add positions but no current agreement existed to add a second SRO and he had not approached the school board on that point. The council moved and approved the agreement (moved by Councilmember Lang; seconded by Councilmember Setonary).
Staff noted the agreement continues a working relationship with the district and provides parents a direct point of contact for school-related issues; the council recorded the motion and passage on the record.
