Council approves temporary closure of North Houston Avenue for Brazos County annex construction

The Bryan City Council voted to authorize a temporary closure of North Houston Avenue between 26th Street and East William Joel Bryan to support construction of the Brazos County annex building project.
Engineer Eric Blackburn described the closure as limited to the blue-marked block for delivery and safety staging associated with the annex construction. He said certain short-term utility closures are expected to reopen by July 3, but the long-term closure segment identified on the site map could remain in place through May 2028. Blackburn noted the contractor has been cooperative and staff will assist with access or parking issues for adjacent properties. After questions confirming the closure’s limited footprint and timeline, council moved to approve the measure and recorded a unanimous vote.
