County staff told the board the sheriff's office successfully obtained a $500,000 congressional appropriation routed through the COPS grant program to fund procurement of a mobile command center.
"Sometime back, the sheriff's office, applied for the community funding through, congressman Vindman's office. They were successful in getting that. The award was $500,000, comes in through a congressional appropriation, which was passed into law," Gordon said, describing the award and early procurement steps. Gordon said staff opened an IFB and received eight responses (seven complete), and that the vehicle must be built within a roughly 24‑month window.
Supervisors asked about maintenance and ongoing subscription costs; staff said the sheriff's office agreed to budget annual maintenance and that the unit includes hydraulics, Starlink capability and radio/networking equipment that carries subscriptions and upkeep needs. A motion to accept the federal grant for $500,000 carried by voice vote.
What’s next: Staff will move forward with procurement planning under the grant parameters and present contract award recommendations and MOUs for board approval.
