Council approves design funding for Langus Pier removal; parks director says pier will not be replaced

Kimberly Moore, parks and facilities director, told council "we will not be replacing this pier" and said the city received insurance funds after a derelict vessel struck the pier in March 2025; the funds are being used for removal and to support other park capital needs.
Moore said the pier at Langus is lightly used compared with other assets and removing the unsafe structure is the most cost-effective option; the city plans to apply the insurance payout to the parks capital improvement fund to address other priorities, including playground reconstruction. Council scheduled the third and final reading for August 12, 2026.
