Sarah Sentaki and Ishita Gintepalli, juniors from Jackson High School and interns in the city clerk's office, told the council that social media is where younger residents discover local businesses and events and proposed a dedicated youth team to create authentic short-form content for Downtown Everett. "We primarily discover cafes, restaurants, events in the area through social media platforms like Instagram or TikTok," Sentaki said.
The students suggested the program would both drive attention to local businesses and give youth hands-on experience in digital marketing and civic participation. Vice President Ryan thanked the interns and said the Greater Everett Chamber of Commerce's upcoming "Meet Everett" campaign could integrate youth perspectives; Ryan offered to follow up with the Chamber's CEO. Mayor Franklin and other council members expressed support for youth engagement and the city's internship program.
