Adopt a Lake volunteers recognized; board proclaims July 2026 Lakes Appreciation Month

Kathy Cadizus, grants manager for Water Resources, presented the Adopt a Lake program she founded in 2008 and thanked volunteers for monitoring, cleanup and education work throughout Lake County.
Kathy said volunteers collected water‑quality samples at dozens of sites and described long‑term program accomplishments: since 2008 the program has collected more than 4,100 samples, removed more than 22,700 pounds of litter from waterways, removed over 76 miles of monofilament fishing line, and logged about 19,400 volunteer hours. She noted volunteers collected roughly 2,820 pounds of shoreline litter and contributed over 1,000 volunteer hours in calendar year 2025 alone.
Kathy described the Adopt a Lake calendar contest (about 200 photo submissions for the 2026 calendar and roughly 2,600 public votes) and said proceeds support program outreach and water quality work. She called up partner groups for certificate photos and refreshments, naming Give a Day Foundation, Trout Lake Nature Center, the SLAP triathlon team, Alpha Kappa Alpha (Mary Ellen Robertson chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution), and QuietFlex Manufacturing among participants.
Kathy read a proclamation declaring July 2026 as Lakes Appreciation Month across Lake County and encouraged residents, businesses and organizations to support stewardship and volunteer efforts throughout the year.
