The council approved an amendment to the zoning code to prohibit the creation of new cemeteries or mausoleums within the city limits, aligning the municipal code with state law. Planning staff explained that state law prevents new cemeteries within municipalities of Cleburne’s population size, and the ordinance update simply removes the use from the zoning use chart while protecting existing cemeteries.
Planning staff said the Planning & Zoning Commission had unanimously recommended the code change and there were no speakers for or against during the public hearing. The council treated the item as a routine code cleanup to ensure consistency with state requirements and adopted the amendment.
