Council approves specific-use permit for New Birth Glory Center at 1033 Dixie Drive

The Clute City Council voted unanimously Thursday to grant a specific-use permit allowing New Birth Glory Center to operate at 1033 Dixie Drive, Suite A.
At a joint public hearing with the Planning & Zoning Commission, the chair read the legal notice and property description (BCIC division 15A0019; 2.607 acres). Brenda George, who identified herself as the spouse of the church’s pastor, told the council the congregation is relocating “one door over” from its current space because the existing tenant space will be used for bingo. The Planning & Zoning Commission recommended approval and the council moved to adopt the ordinance.
Councilmember Aguilar moved to approve the ordinance and Councilperson Maddox seconded; the chair called the question and the motion passed unanimously. The ordinance (No. 2026-009) includes a nontransferability clause and is set to take effect 10 days after passage, per the reading of the ordinance language.
Staff noted that written protests must be signed by owners of 20% or more of the property area or adjoining lots within 200 feet to prevent the amendment from taking effect without a 0.75 favorable vote of the council. Written comments were accepted at the city manager’s office until 5 p.m. on the day of the hearing. The council adjourned the public hearing and moved into regular business after the vote.
