Police chief requests replacement of 12 patrol rifles after training jams

The Bee Cave police chief asked the council to fund replacement of 12 patrol rifles, saying the existing weapons have shown repeated jamming in training and need to be replaced for officer safety and reliability.
"So we are requesting, replacement, 12 rifles to replace our current, rifles," the chief said, describing repeated malfunctions observed during monthly training. He recommended a vendor based in San Antonio (Sons of Liberty), noting that the vendor will provide immediate replacement rifles if one is taken for evidence and will service or replace rifles while repairs occur.
The chief said the current rifles dated from about 2014 and that increased firearms training has revealed reliability problems. Staff said they would pursue trade-in or surplus-sale options for the old rifles and would update quote figures in the packet to reflect a new vendor quote the department had recently received.
Council asked staff to update the procurement numbers and include the equipment ask in upcoming budget deliberations.
