Council unanimously approved Resolution 2026-24 to revise the city’s vacation leave policy, with an effective date of Oct. 1 (the next fiscal year).
Brooke (speaker 17), who led the personnel policy review, summarized key changes: accruals will be converted from days to hours to standardize across shift lengths; carryover limits will increase (the cap was proposed to rise to 120 hours with a payout rule for amounts above the max); director and above positions will start at a four-week vacation rate after probation; and any request for more than two consecutive weeks requires city manager approval. Councilmembers said the changes aim to improve recruitment and retention while encouraging employees to actually take vacations for work-life balance. The resolution passed unanimously.
