BK City Council voted unanimously to appoint Karen Smith as the city’s new director of finance, following a short executive session on May 26.
City Manager (speaker 3) recommended Smith to the council, noting she has “over 20 years of local government experience, and especially in finance.” The manager said he looked forward to Smith bringing that experience to the city and recommended an effective start date of June 8. After a motion to approve the manager’s recommendation (moved by Council member, speaker 2), councilmembers voted aye; the mayor declared the motion carried unanimously.
The appointment was taken immediately after the council returned from executive session, and no public comment was offered on the hire. The council did not provide additional implementation details such as salary or reporting structure during the meeting.
