Bedford honors police officer, librarian and longtime firefighter at council meeting

The council recognized Officer Ignacio Diaz Veil Leon for five years of service, Daphne Velasquez for five years as a youth services librarian, and Captain Jerry Watson for 30 years with the Bedford Fire Department.
At its June 23 meeting the Bedford City Council took time to recognize several employees for service milestones. Police Chief Bobby Lapena introduced Officer Ignacio Diaz Veil Leon and celebrated his five years with the Bedford Police Department, bilingual abilities and academic progress including a May 2026 master’s degree in public administration.
Library Director Maria Redburn recognized Daphne Velasquez for five years in youth services, citing program leadership, collection work and mentorship of new staff. An assistant fire department representative commended Captain Jerry Watson for 30 years of dedicated service and listed his professional certifications and leadership contributions.
Mayor Dan Kogan and council members offered public thanks and applause during the recognitions.
