The Balch Springs City Council voted to approve a proclamation recognizing May as Mental Health Awareness Month and to acknowledge NAMI Dallas Southern Sector’s work in the region.
Councilmember Hill moved to approve the proclamation, and Councilmember Garcia seconded. Carrie J. Marshall, who identified herself with a Balch Springs address, described local mental-health outreach including sessions at the library, resources posted on the city’s website and a speaker event coordinated with outside partners. "The events that we have are here in the city of Balch Springs, but the participants are from other cities," Marshall said, noting the city must boost collaboration and outreach so more local residents participate.
Councilmembers thanked Marshall and urged continued coordination with city marketing to increase resident participation in future events.
