Board grants waiver allowing theory classes at separate cosmetology campus for Expertise Barber Program

Gwen Braimoh, representing Expertise Barber Program, requested a waiver of NAC 643.500 so the barber program could hold theory classes at a cosmetology campus located at 1911 Stella Lake while practical instruction remains at the barber school at 535 E. Lake Mead. Braimoh said the cosmetology campus would be closed while barber students attended theory classes and that using the alternate space is required for final accreditation inspections with NACCAS.
Board members asked whether any cosmetology instruction would occur during the barber classes; Braimoh replied, "yes, only theory would be held at the Stella Lake location. All practical would be done at the barber school." The board approved the waiver and agreed to provide a written letter of approval the following day.
