At the start of the meeting the council approved noncontroversial consent items (6a–6d) by unanimous vote. Later, during agenda item 7b, the council held a public hearing on a specific-use permit request for an auto-repair (light) operation on approximately 1.2 acres just north of West Rosemont and adjacent to an approved Discount Tire site. Development services staff told the council the request fits zoning with a specific-use permit and that the Planning & Zoning Commission had recommended approval unanimously with no public comments.
Council member comments noted the city’s desire for commercial tax revenue; a motion to approve the specific-use permit passed 6–1. Planning staff said the location and site plan are consistent with nearby commercial development and would provide service to area residents and travelers.
