Planning and capital staff reported multiple development and capital-improvement updates at the May 26 meeting. Planning and zoning approved rezonings in a commercial corridor and staff launched GIS story maps showing street rankings and project status. The EDC Type B board approved modifications related to a 14-acre Alexander Village parcel and staff said playground equipment upgrades for Godberry Park and Oak Ridge Park are under contract and expected to begin construction in summer.
Staff also reported CIP totals: roughly $8,000,000 in completed construction projects, a little over $13,000,000 under construction, $20,000,000 under design, and more than $78,000,000 in combined project funding. On grants, staff said the city received a TechStop Highway Safety Improvement Program award “just shy of 800,000” to fund a new traffic signal and intersection improvements at a high-traffic intersection, with Raising Cane’s committing matching funds for design costs.
Staff said they will work this summer on a Texas Water Development Board grant application for more than $13,000,000 in water-master-plan projects and will proceed with kickoff meetings for Elam Road and Shepherd Lane redesigns. Council and staff discussed an operational plan for parks to balance capital investments with ongoing maintenance obligations.
