The State Barbers' Health & Sanitation Board voted Dec. 30 to adopt formal job descriptions for board employees, including the Chief Executive Administrator, Administrative Assistant, inspectors and test proctors. President Toby Chavez called the motion; it passed with three votes in favor and one opposed.
Antinette Maestas, who the board has identified to assume the Chief Executive Administrator duties, presented the descriptions and explained the board currently lacks contracts for these positions. Members focused discussion on the recommended short‑term staffing approach through Manpower. Health Officer Ihsan Azzam questioned whether outsourcing was necessary and criticized paying an outside firm; Raymon Green and other members said the vendor is the fastest route to compliance with State rules. The motion to adopt the descriptions passed (3 in favor, Azzam opposed).
