City manager outlines capital projects, Midtown Legacy Park groundbreaking and community events

City Manager Andrew Nelson updated council and the public on capital projects and community events during the May 5, 2026 meeting. He reported that reconstruction of Waverly Drive is complete, concrete repairs on Cabin are finished, and Oakmont Lift Station is under construction.
Nelson announced the groundbreaking for Midtown Legacy Park is scheduled for Monday, May 18 at 9:00 a.m. He also said the renaming of Bomber Drive to Midtown Park Boulevard will occur on Tuesday, May 19 at 10:00 a.m. "The groundbreaking for the Midtown Legacy Park is Monday, May 18 at 9AM at Midtown Park," Nelson said, and he urged residents to consult the city calendar for details at bryantx.gov.
Nelson also listed community programming: a drive-in movie showing of Shrek and Shrek 2 at the Bryan Regional Athletic Complex with pre-movie activities and food trucks (admission $15 per vehicle, cash only), the 31st annual cemetery workday on Saturday, May 9, and a free microchip and rabies vaccination event on May 9 at Austin's Colony Park.
