Regional drainage program wins $54M state award and $15M interlocal; construction notices expected this summer

Quiddity Engineering and city capital-projects staff gave a quarterly progress update on the Regional Drainage Improvement Program (RDIP), saying several projects are moving from design toward construction. The consultants reported a major funding milestone: "We did get the $54,000,000 — we closed with Texas Water Development Board April 9," and they said the city also has a recently executed interlocal for $15,000,000 from the Harris County Flood Control District.
Director of Capital Projects Umair Khan told the council four demolition bids had been received and a recommendation of award would appear on the June 1 agenda; Quiddity said the team anticipates a construction notice to proceed in mid-June and that many bids estimate work can be completed in under 180 days. Staff emphasized ongoing interagency coordination with TxDOT and Harris County for channel and right-of-way matters and said daily onsite construction-management staff will be the first point of contact for neighborhood questions once work begins.
