How to use 'within other geographies' and map partial geographies on data.census.gov

Noemi Mendez demonstrated the 'within other geographies' filter on data.census.gov and explained the distinction between neatly nested geographies and those that cross boundaries. "Within other geographies allows you to access additional collections of geographies," she said, and she showed examples for census tracts, places, congressional districts and ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs).
Using Genesee County, New York, Mendez selected ZIP code tabulation areas and demonstrated the map view listing every 5-digit ZCTA that is fully or partially within Genesee County. She added neighboring counties (Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Wyoming, Livingston) to illustrate how ZCTAs overlap county lines and how the interface labels full vs. partial areas. She recommended users read the interface labels ("fully" vs. "partially within") to determine whether a geography crosses other jurisdictional boundaries.
