The Huber Heights City Council voted unanimously on March 9 to authorize the city manager to amend the solid‑waste contract with Dempsey Way Systems 2 Inc., doing business as Republic Services of Dayton, adopting a weekly recycling schedule and revised pricing.
City staff explained the rate structure: the standard rate will be $19 per month and includes the recycling cart; there remains a senior discount of 10 percent, which staff said would equate to $17.10 per month for qualifying accounts. For customers who rent a second cart, the charge would drop to $3 (from $3.65 under the prior contract); households that did not previously rent a cart would see an increase of $1.75 per month under the new contract. The contract term is three years and increases are capped at 5 percent per year.
Staff clarified the senior discount applies to account holders age 55 and older and outlined how residents can enroll by contacting customer care or the city representative; staff said qualified existing senior accounts will roll over automatically. A Republic representative at the meeting introduced herself and said Rumpke expects to participate in future bid opportunities when the next procurement occurs.
The resolution authorizing the amendment was moved and seconded and passed 9–0.
Council asked staff to provide contact information and clear instructions for residents seeking the senior discount. The city manager said staff will circulate the enrollment steps and business cards for the city representative.
The contract amendment will be implemented by the city manager's office and the public works/customer care teams.
