Huber Heights council adopts refreshed city seal, waives second reading

Council members voted unanimously on March 9 to adopt a refreshed official city seal designed to make the emblem clearer and easier to reproduce on apparel and small‑format items.

At the meeting, staff and councilors described the proposal as a refresh rather than a replacement. A staff presentation noted the existing seal originated from student pencil sketches and contains shading that is difficult to reproduce. "It's a refresh of the existing city seal, to make greater clarity to the images so that if we're trying to transpose those onto apparel or other types of items, it makes it much easier," a staff member said.

Council moved to waive the second reading and the motion to waive carried 9–0. The adoption motion was then made and seconded and carried 9–0. A councilor asked that staff show the color version before the seal is released to the public; staff responded the vendor had not provided a color proof for the packet but will produce the color fill using the existing gold, green and blue scheme before public use.

The ordinance was described as implementing "option number 1" with the month "January" spelled out in full in the text, a formatting detail council discussed during debate. The council agreed the refreshed seal retains the same elements while simplifying linework for clarity. The measure takes effect following the adoption vote.

Council did not record any objections during discussion and indicated the color proof will be shared with council prior to wider release.
