Project engineers explained how the temporary water system will work and what residents should expect when crews install new mains. Whitney Bouchard described a plan in which a temporary water main is laid along the ground and individual homes are connected "one by one" after disinfection and testing. "You're gonna have 48 hours notice for any planned water shutdowns," she said.
Staff explained that the temporary main is typically a small‑diameter (about 2‑inch) plastic line laid above ground so crews can excavate without repeatedly hitting live mains. Residents should expect at least two planned interruptions (one when connecting to the temporary main and one when connecting from the temporary main to the new main), typically lasting about one to two hours; staff warned that unexpected breaks are still possible during excavation and urged residents to prepare accordingly.
