Council backs concept plan to boost pedestrian safety at Riverside Crossing Park

Council endorsed a design concept on June 8 to improve pedestrian safety and event infrastructure at Riverside Crossing Park. Staff proposed a perimeter scheme of trees, planted mounds, boulders and seating to block vehicle access into park event areas, plus an additional internal walkway to separate pedestrians from Riverside Drive traffic.
Matt (staff) described the concept and preliminary cost estimate and told council, "We have $2,800,000 in our budget currently," indicating staff believes available CIP funding can support the proposed scope. Councilmembers expressed strong support for the planting and seating elements and asked staff to evaluate opportunities to create internal access points so food trucks and event staging can be accommodated without lining vehicles along Riverside Drive. Staff will return with a final design package prior to bid.
