Council discussed that smoking already was prohibited in city spaces and the amendment would explicitly add vaping or electronic smoking devices. A council member asked what the proposed amendments were; staff answered the change is to 'add vaping' to the existing prohibition in city-owned or leased buildings and vehicles. The council voted in favor of the ordinance on the motion before it.
The change removes the ability to vape inside municipal buildings and vehicles and aligns the code’s language with current public-health concerns and municipal courtroom behavior raised by staff.
