Councilors unanimously approved first readings of multiple ordinances to modernize local regulations. Planning director Kristen Crane presented updates to the town’s animal‑services chapter to define and permit pet‑washing stations and pet shelters (with the caveat that outdoor operations may require a special exception). The change was presented as a technical update intended to reflect current business practices and to help organizations such as Pet Helpers operate within the town’s zoning framework.
Council also approved on first reading a set of building regulation amendments needed to support the newly established in‑house building department (working with SafeBuilt). Public works director Melissa Flick said the town adopted property maintenance and accessibility codes to align local ordinances with state‑adopted standards and to enable the building department to operate effectively.
Both measures passed first reading unanimously and will return for second reading at a future meeting. Councilors emphasized the changes were primarily housekeeping and code alignment rather than expansion of uses.
