County honors teachers, schools and education partners during Teacher Appreciation Week

Speakers included Anthony Mays, superintendent with Alief ISD, who noted his district serves more than 37,000 students and thanked teachers for daily work supporting students and closing opportunity gaps. Representatives from Harmony Public Schools and the Texas Public Charter Schools Association also thanked the court for recognizing educators; HCC Southeast's president highlighted welding and workforce programs that connect students to careers.
Officials stressed teacher retention and compensation remain priorities and that the county aims to support schools through recognition and partnerships. The court encouraged continued collaboration between county government, school districts and community organizations.
