Board debates earmarking TIF revenue for public safety; EMS/stakeholder review prompts caution

Several board members supported allocating part of TIF revenue to public‑safety costs in the I‑30 corridor but cautioned the exact share should wait for additional review by an EMS/fire stakeholder committee. One committee member said the EMS/fire stakeholder group meets in early September and that the group's recommendations could change the amount needed for EMS and fire services.
"I don't know that I'm ready to agree to a 50% out of the TIF to support public safety operations if fire and EMS is looking to cut, particularly EMS services out of the city," one committee member said. Watts responded that the 50% proposal is a starting point and that staff can amend the allocation annually as conditions or needs change. The board asked staff to provide more detail about what the earmarked general‑fund transfer would actually pay for (salaries, vehicles or maintenance) before finalizing a plan.
