The Lakeway City Council on July 13 approved staff'recommended award of Invitation to Bid 26-1007 for Highlands Boulevard, Tavish Trail and Powder Creek Road intersection improvements to MasTec North America at $677,104.76. City Manager Joseph Mollis told the council that staff received multiple bids on the reissued solicitation and that the city's consultant raised concerns about the low bidder's past performance, prompting a recommendation to select the second-lowest bid.
Mollis said the project will include raised pedestrian crosswalks, improved signaling and a raised crosswalk at the roundabout throat. He noted some lead time for specialized Hawk signal masts but said contractors could begin geotechnical and infrastructure work while waiting for parts. After questions about bid documentation and protestability, Councilmember (8) moved to approve staff'recommendation to award the contract to MasTec North America; the motion carried unanimously.
