GLASA outlines reach and safety practices, says Highland Village accounts for a small share of players
Summary
John Albert, president of the Greater Louisville Area Soccer Association, told council GLASA registers about 6,700 players across North Texas, enforces coach and referee certification and provides scholarships; he said roughly 5–6% of players live in Highland Village and pledged to share a Highland Village-specific demographic and financial breakdown.

John Albert, president of the Greater Louisville Area Soccer Association, told the Highland Village City Council in the early work session that GLASA has grown since 1997 into a volunteer-run nonprofit that registers about 6,700 players and manages hundreds of coaches and referees. He said the league enforces background checks and safe-sport training and pays a per-player fee for insurance through the North Texas State Soccer Association and national affiliates.
Why it matters: council members asked about the local return on investment, nonresident fees and transparency. Albert said Highland Village accounts for a small proportion of GLASA’s roster — roughly 5–6% — and that the group will provide a Highland Village-specific demographic breakdown and details on fees and field usage. “We register all of our players…our 501(c)(3) is self-contained,” Albert said when asked whether money flows to national organizations. He added that the association aims to keep programming affordable while covering operating costs through registration fees, sponsorships and tournaments.
Council members pressed on nonresident fees and financial disclosure. One resident asked whether GLASA posts meeting minutes or financial statements; Albert said meetings occur monthly and that reports and minutes are available on the organization’s website or will be provided on request. The city staff later noted that Unity Park and related capital work contribute to regional tournament draw and local economic activity.
