Barnwell County adopts regional Hazard Mitigation Plan to retain FEMA funding eligibility

Administrator Roger E. Riley told the Barnwell County Council on March 10 that FEMA requires counties to adopt a Hazard Mitigation Plan every five years to remain eligible for FEMA funding. The plan before the council was the regional plan prepared by the Lower Savannah Council of Governments. Council moved to adopt the plan (motion by Councilman Travis Hooper; second by Councilman David Kenner) and the motion carried.
Administrator Riley said adopting the regional plan keeps Barnwell County eligible for FEMA mitigation funds and that county staff will continue coordination with the Lower Savannah COG and relevant departments. The action was recorded during the meeting; no further procedural actions were taken at that session.
