The Vernon County Board approved several Sheriff’s Office compensation and administrative changes on Feb. 20, 2025. The board adopted a night-shift differential policy of $0.50 per hour for correctional officers and 911 dispatchers for hours worked between 5:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., effective the first full pay period in March (March 2, 2025).
The board also approved Resolution 2025-09 to align on-call deputy sheriffs’ wages with the full-time starting deputy rate. The resolution sets the on-call deputy wage at the full-time starting rate listed in the 2025 collective bargaining agreement: $28.96 per hour, effective March 2, 2025, with no step increases but subject to future contract changes. Transport officers were placed in Grade I, Step 1 of the Non-Union wage scale.
Separately the board approved a Memorandum of Understanding to amend collective-bargaining language about reimbursement for mileage and meals for new hires who attend the law-enforcement academy. The MOU specifies that reimbursement is contingent on successful completion of training and on Vernon County receiving reimbursement funding from the Wisconsin Department of Justice; the county will submit the DJ-LE-304 form to the Department of Justice as part of the process.
