Vernon County adopts judicial privacy policy required by Wisconsin Act 235

On April 15 the Vernon County Board adopted Resolution 2025-12, implementing Policy No. 829 to align county records practices with 2023 Wisconsin Act 235, which allows current and former judicial officers to request that certain personally identifying information be shielded from public disclosure.
The policy requires requests to be received first by the County Clerk, who will notify county departments securely. It directs departments to create procedures to shield or redact protected fields (home address, personal phone, email, dates of birth, certain identification numbers and other listed items). The policy also requires confidentiality agreements for third parties seeking access and sets a 10-business-day deadline for removal of personally identifying information after a valid request.
Clerk J Pedretti and the drafted policy emphasize departmental procedures and vendor confidentiality agreements to maintain public workflows while protecting designated fields. The resolution passed on a voice vote with all voting in favor.
