Vernon County reallocates Ho-Chunk contingency funds after DOJ pulls rural-violence grant

The board voted to reallocate up to $47,197.50 from 2024 Ho-Chunk contingency funds to cover remaining costs of the County’s Domestic Violence Reduction Initiative after LISC’s $200,000 Rural Violent Crime Reduction Initiative (RVCRI) award was terminated by the U.S. Department of Justice. Minutes record that Vernon County had been counting on $58,717 in grant funds to sustain the program through 2025; LISC informed the county that DOJ terminated the RVCRI award because the award “no longer effectuates the program goals or agency priorities.”
Community Development Director Amy Oliver presented the situation and described partner efforts to preserve program services. The Finance Committee recommended the reallocation and the board adopted the resolution by voice vote. The resolution authorizes the Finance Director to amend the 2025 budget to reflect the transfer and covers the period July 1–Dec. 31, 2025.
