Council schedules public hearing for text amendment to allow personal-service businesses in O1 corridor

Staff explained text amendment TA26-06, which would broaden permitted uses in the O1 district to include personal-service establishments such as nail salons, hair salons and barbershops. "What we would like to do is add personal service establishments, which are those things such as, nail salons, hair salons, barbershops, things of that nature in the 01 District," staff said, and noted the change is intended to increase marketability for existing structures on Brant and Old Troy Pike.
Council confirmed the item will have a public hearing Monday and that the ordinance will be the first of two readings; staff noted this is intended to provide an alternative to rezoning small commercial parcels into heavier commercial designations. No formal vote occurred during the work session.
