Council to resubmit two trail grant applications to build paved connections to regional bike path

Staff will resubmit a Clean Ohio Trails Fund application to build a paved trail in the Canal Heights area connecting to Chambersburg and the Miami River regional path, and a Recreational Trails Program application to add about 700 feet of paved path inside Community Park; council moved both grants to Monday for formal action.
Jeff told council the two grant applications are resubmissions of prior proposals aimed at creating paved trail connections and improving park access. "What that trail would do is will a lot of, allow a paved trail over in the Canal Heights area, and it'll ultimately connect to the, Chambersburg, paved path that will ultimately connect to the regional, bike path, along the Miami River," he said.
He also described the Recreational Trails Program proposal to add a roughly 700-foot paved segment within Community Park to improve mobility for park users. Council asked staff to confirm the exact route and lighting needs; staff said lighting assessments are underway and that the lighted crosswalk equipment has been ordered and will be installed after weather allows. The council agreed to move the applications onto the Monday agenda for formal consideration.
