County moves to quitclaim unused Brewton street to adjacent landowner

Laurens County commissioners voted on April 21 to quitclaim an old, never-maintained city street in Brewton back to adjacent landowner Susan B. Veal after County Attorney Brad Childers described the strip as having no value to the county or neighboring landowners.
Childers told the board that the property appears to originate from Mrs. Veal’s tract and that the county does not maintain the street; Commissioner Kevin Tanner moved to quitclaim the property and Commissioner Gerad Mathis seconded. The motion passed unanimously. The minutes do not list a map reference or deed book citation in the record.
The quitclaim transfers the county’s interest in that strip of land to Mrs. Veal. The minutes do not show any challenge from other landowners or follow-up administrative tasks recorded at the meeting.
