Hidalgo County Drainage District No. 1 staff updated the court on the Lateral G project, reporting it is pending a notice to proceed under a Texas Water Development Board grant: "This is a project with $1,400,000 in grant and $1,400,000 in kind match," staff said. The district's design engineer will construct the project and an interlocal has been in place since February 2024.
Staff said the lateral G project feeds into the district's main floodway channel and that they continue to submit and respond to comments on grant applications to the Texas Water Development Board, the Texas Division of Emergency Management (Hazard Mitigation), and FEMA BRIC grants. When asked whether staff could evaluate benefits to the drainage system, the presenter said they could prepare before/after information showing that widened ditches have reduced or eliminated flooding in previously affected communities.
The court accepted the update and directed staff to prepare public‑facing materials to demonstrate the project's impacts on flood depths.
